ADOPT A POLAR BEAR
Adopt a polar bear and support our work. Magnificent polar bears depend on Arctic sea ice to hunt and raise their young.
Adopt a polar bear and support our work. Climate change is threatening their survival. Polar bears are getting skinnier and hungrier and face a grave challenge to their survival. Since 1972 WWF has worked hard to fight for polar bears and secure a safer future for them. However, by 2050, polar bear numbers may decline dramatically due to the rapid loss of sea ice.

ADOPT A POLAR BEAR, SUPPORT OUR WORK
Animal adoptions like yours give a huge boost to our work. Your symbolic adoption supports our work. In Greece, together with our partners, we are building awareness on the necessity for the coexistence of people with wildlife, maintaining a precious balance. Another major threat to that balance is wildlife crime and we are doing our best to stop it.
DID YOU KNOW?
Polar bears are at the top of the food chain and have an important role in the overall health of the marine environment. Because they spend most of their lives on the sea ice of the Arctic Ocean depending on the ocean for their food and habitat, polar bears are the only bear species to be considered marine mammals. They can swim for long distances and steadily for many hours to get from one piece of ice to another. Their large paws are specially adapted for swimming – they use them to paddle through the water while holding their hind legs flat like a rudder.
Polar bears have such a remarkable sense of smell that they can detect a seal swimming in the water – below a meter of compacted snow – up to a kilometer away.
There are approximately 26,000 wild polar bears; by 2050, polar bear numbers may decline by 30% due to the rapid loss of sea ice.
