ADOPT A PANDA
It is estimated that around 1,860 giant pandas remain in the wild today.
Help us protect this iconic species. Adopt a giant panda and support our work. The giant panda habitat was once spread throughout China, northern Vietnam, and northern Myanmar. But now the giant panda is found in the wild in just six isolated mountains in south-central China.

ADOPT A PANDA, SUPPORT OUR WORK
Animal adoptions like yours give a huge boost to our work. Your symbolic adoption supports our work. In Greece, together with our partners, we are building awareness on the necessity for the coexistence of people with wildlife, maintaining a precious balance. Another major threat to that balance is wildlife crime and we are doing our best to stop it.
DID YOU KNOW?
A newborn panda is about the size of a stick of butter—about 1/900th the size of its mother—but can grow to up to 150 kilos as an adult. These bears are excellent tree climbers despite their bulk.
Why is the Panda also our symbol? Because in 1980 WWF became the first international organization invited to work in China – and we’ve been working with the Chinese government to help protect giant pandas ever since.
Learn more about the panda
An adult panda needs around 38 kilograms of bamboo every day. That's why it migrates often, following the bamboo forests that wither every 10 to 100 years. As long as the forests remained extensive, it was able to carry out this migration without any problems.
Roads and railways are increasingly cutting through the forest, which isolates panda populations and prevents them from breeding. Pandas that live in isolated mountains are especially vulnerable to warming - as they already have small ranges that will shrink and fragment further.
