Your symbolic adoption supports our work and gives us the means to continue. Our initial goal is to maintain the natural conditions for the survival and reproduction of dolphins in the Greek seas and especially in the Gulf of Corinth.
In WWF we record the population of dolphins through aerial research. We are pushing for tackling overfishing, which has resulted in shrinking fish populations feeding on dolphins, and we are demanding an end to plans for oil extraction in the Ionian Sea and Crete.

The Greek seas host four species of dolphins. Belt dolphin, rhino dolphin, ash dolphin and common dolphin. All dolphins have a sound detection system that they use to orient themselves, locate their food and communicate with each other. Each dolphin has its own unique sound signature while they hear frequencies 10 times higher than what a human hears.

Dolphins sleep with only half their brain. The other half remains awake in order to maintain basic navigation and breathing.
Dolphins are some of the most exciting and beloved marine mammals. We find depictions of dolphins in ancient mosaics, buildings, and pottery, while we also encounter them in Greek mythology.
